Born on October 12, 1987, Mercito Gesta is a boxer from the Philippines who currently holds the WBO NABO Youth Lightweight title after defeating Oscar Meza on June 4, 2010. Gesta, known to fans as Guerrero or No Mercy, was born in the city of Cebu in the Philippines but now resides in San Diego, California.
Gesta made his debut in the ring in 2003, fighting opposite Edwin Picardal at the Joe Cantada Boxing Arena in Manila. A year later he was back in the ring to fight and defeat Renato Nival. In the same year he fought Sherwin Daguhoy at the Pusok Sports Complex in Cebu City, Philipppines, before fighting Daguhoy again at the NBC tent at the Fort in Metro Manila. Undefeated, Gesta went on to win several more fights before he faced off with Rey Llagas, who gave the Cebuano boxer his first defeat at the San Andres Civic and Sports Center in Manila in 2005.
Gesta made his US debut in 2007, fighting at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois against Carlos Madrid. The match, which ended with a win for Gesta, was immediately followed by another match against Carlos Vinan two months later at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. His most recent match was held on February 18, 2011, at the Longshoremen’s Hall in San Francisco, California against Genaro Trazancos. Gesta is currently trained by the father-and-son coaching team of Norman ‘Bumpy’ Para and Vincent Channing Para.
